Chris Buck Has A Blog

Steve Carell photo by Chris Buck.

Chris Buck needs no introduction, but I am going to say a few things about him anyway.  I had the chance to meet up with Chris in New York a few years ago, and he was very gracious to make time to meet with a young photographer such as myself.  I have always admired and been inspired by his photography, and over the past few years, he has had a tremendous impact on me from the business side of photography, as well.  He has taught me some valuable lessons I will never forget.  I will always be grateful to him for that.  Chris is an award winning celebrity, advertising, and editorial photographer, and he just started a blog which I can promise you will be worth following.  Do yourself a favor and check out his website chrisbuck.com and make sure to add his blog chrisbucknews.wordpress.com to your reader.  You will be glad you did.  Welcome to the blogosphere, Chris.  Do we still call it the blogosphere?

Security At It’s Finest

Posted by John Keatley / Filed under News

I recently spent a week in New York and DC, meeting with photo editors and art buyers.  In New York, many of the buildings that I visited require you to check in and wear a visitor badge.   Some places are more strict than others.  One security check point was so thorough, I thought they were going to require a blood test.

Another building, in particular, (which should be pretty obvious from the picture below) had a lengthy line at the security check in and did not move very fast.   When I finally made it up to the counter, I was told that my name was not on “the list”.  This meant that they had to call my contact, and my contact had to get someone else with clearance to put me on the list, so that security could let me through.   I also had to get my picture taken.  You can’t be too safe these days.  And here it is!  Are you serious!?  After all that, and all the high tech equipment that is available today, this is the best they can do?   Really makes a criminal think twice.   If I did anything illegal while I was in the building, they at least would have known what shape to be looking for.  I will admit, this is one of the best pictures ever taken of me though.  Right after my drivers license photo.

American Youth Book Launch Invite

Posted by John Keatley / Filed under News

American Youth evite

You are invited to the American Youth book launch at The New York Photo Festival.  It is taking place Friday, May 15, 2009, 6:00pm (sharp!) – 7:30pm.  It will be at St. Ann’s Warehouse, 38 Water Street, Brooklyn, and you must RSVP.  Just click on the invitation above, and you can get all of the necessary information.  Unfortunately I will not be able to attend, so please take notes and pictures, and let me know how it goes.  I think it is going to be a great event, and I am really excited to see the actual book in my hands.

I photographed street youth, and NFL cheerleaders (not together) for this book as mentioned earlier.  I am planning a big post with all of my Sea Gal cheerleader images (including outtakes) along with some video footage from a few of the shoots.  I hope to do this around the book launch, so probably in a week or so.
